Mr. Berens has a reputation of leading by example. One such example is his remarkably detailed and thorough lesson planning.

"The lesson plan Brandon developed was truly outstanding. He is a highly organized and energetic young teacher—truly beyond his years."

During this lesson, I led the students through tuning, a scale warm-up, rudimentary practice, and repertoire rehearsal geared around the topic of bowing styles legato and staccato, sight-reading new melodies, and enhancing dexterity of the left hand. I’ve developed ways to deepen their understanding and execution of the technique. These skills are essential to becoming competent string players.

During this lesson, I led the students through tuning, two simultaneous scale warm-ups, a procedure designed to help them follow conducting, and a repertoire rehearsal geared toward mastery using “interleaved learning” or “cross-training.” I’ve curated ways to deepen their comprehension and performance of the technique. These skills are crucial to advancing as string players.

During this lesson, I led the students through tuning, warm-ups, and activities built around teaching vibrato. By enhancing their understanding of the physicality of their body and how it applies to the foundation of making relaxed vibrato, the young musicians can continue to improve their musicality and mature their sound. Proper instruction here can make or break their future as growing musicians.
